The reason is that with most newly released printers, as a consumer you won’t have an option to purchase less expensive 3rd party ink cartridge refills. The main reason printer manufacturers change models so often is so that they can change the cartridges in order to keep the 3rd party ink re-fillers from selling you cheaper cartridge replacements. When purchasing a printer ask when the printer was released and if there are cheaper 3rd party ink refilling options available.
